A $15 million grants program has been launched to focus on cutting-edge technologies to remove, reduce or offset emissions from industrial processes, with Western Australia’s mining, manufacturing and construction sectors contributing almost 60 per cent of the state’s recorded carbon emissions.
The Carbon Innovation Grants program focuses on supporting Western Australia’s heavy industry transition to net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The grants will be delivered through two funding streams:
- Feasibility studies – ranging from $50,000 to $500,000 to support technology development to progress from concept to ‘real world’ trials
- Pilot projects and capital works – ranging from $100,000 to $1.5 million to support ‘real world’ testing of innovative technologies from pilot stage to full-scale deployment
The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation will distribute the grants in three rounds, with approximately $4 million available each year until 2025.
Applications close on 16 December. For more information on the grants or application process, visit the Carbon Innovation Grants Program website.
Western Australian Minister for Environment and Climate Action, Reece Whitby, said the grants are an exciting opportunity to help Western Australian industries invest in new technologies to cut their emissions.
“Action on climate change is crucial to diversifying WA’s economy, create long-term jobs and manage environmental impacts,” Mr Whitby said.
