The Association of Mining and Exploration Companies’ (AMEC) South Australian member company, Andromeda Metals, has received final approval for its Great White Project, which has a 28-year life-of-mine expectancy.
AMEC Chief Executive Officer, Warren Pearce, said, “The approval of Andromeda’s Program for Environment and Rehabilitation Program (PEPR) is welcome news for South Australia’s developing critical minerals sector.
“Following extensive stakeholder engagement, best-practice consultation and comprehensive environmental studies, this approval demonstrates the government’s confidence that the company can comply with regulatory conditions set under the 2021-introduced mining legislation reforms.”
The Great White Project is expected to create up to 40 direct jobs during commencement, and up to 70 jobs when the mine reaches full capacity. The project also presents ongoing opportunities for industry and community collaboration and growth.
“In order to reach the state and Commonwealth’s decarbonisation targets, more critical minerals mines are needed, and more investment into projects across South Australia is required to spur project development,” Mr Pearce said.
“Mining projects such as the Great White Project are an excellent example of the natural mineral wealth within South Australia, and the innovation explorers and miners are employing to safely extract these materials.
“AMEC welcomes continued opportunities to work with Andromeda Metals, the South Australian Government and the broader community, to ensure South Australia continues to progress opportunities to become a key supplier of the minerals that are essential to a decarbonised future.”
Mr Pearce congratulated the team at Andromeda, and their external consultants, for unlocking the next high value mining operation in South Australia.
