AusProof’s electrical couplers have helped safely connect mining projects and tunnelling industries around the world.

Safe and reliable electrical cabling and coupling systems are crucial for mining operations, and AusProof has been delivering innovative and trusted solutions to the industry for decades.

With headquarters in Gladstone in central Queensland, AusProof can trace its beginnings to 1978, when founder Philip Marks started Proof Engineering in South Africa. Over the next 16 years, the company established a reputation among clients in southern Africa for its flexible and responsive products.

In 1994, Phillip sold Proof Engineering and relocated to Australia, where he founded AusProof.

The commitment to engineering coupling solutions for all kinds of heavy industry environments carried through to AusProof’s work in Australia.

“Our journey began with a clear vision: to provide world-class electrical coupler systems that withstand the harshest operating environments,” AusProof said.

It didn’t take long for the company to build its reputation among Australian miners.

“Our core belief is that innovation must serve the real-world needs of the people who rely on our equipment,” AusProof said.

The company has built a solid legacy of products that have served customers well over a long period. With its stated aim of creating products that connect research and development (R&D) to real-world solutions, AusProof set about working on setting new standards in electrical safety and performance, with an early focus on a variety of phase segregated coupler systems.

The company broke new ground internationally in 2005 with it 25kV underground coupler system in the US.

“That proved our ability to adapt and perform in new markets,” AusProof said.

This was followed in 2008 when the company released its 15kV fibre optic coupler, demonstrating an early move towards providing data-integration solutions.

Another major step forward was made in 2013 with what was said to be the world-first development of a 35kV phase segregated coupler system, which extended the company’s scope of expertise and capabilities into even higher voltage applications.

The coupler was developed and delivered in only 15 weeks for a client in West Africa.

AusProof also developed the 11kV replaceable flange system in 2015, reducing maintenance times and costs for its clients.

The company expanded its operations overseas during this period, establishing JoynX in South Africa, KonNx Inc in the US, and KonNx in Chile. (JoynX later rebranded to KonNx Africa in 2021 to unify its global identity.)

That period f expansion was topped off by the 2021 launch of KonNx UK, marking a foray aimed at supporting Europe’s mining and tunnelling sectors.

“A highlight for the company recently was when AusProof’s coupler technology, through AusProof’s sister branch KonNx UK, was used on one of Europe’s biggest tunnelling projects,” AusProof said.

The company’s mission is to provide customers around the world with the latest, most innovative, high- and low-voltage coupler systems.

“We’ve grown into a trusted global supplier, with our reach expanding through our KonNx brand, and providing the next generation of coupler technology globally.,” AusProof said.

Including the businesses under the KonNx umbrella, the network operates with nearly 50 years of combined expertise, serving major markets across Africa, North and South America, the UK, and Asia Pacific.

AusProof has identified electrification, automation and digital integration as key focus areas for development.

It is expanding its efforts to develop smart coupler systems capable of monitoring temperature, load and wear in real-time, helping operators make data-driven decisions that improve safety and efficiency. It is also exploring sustainable manufacturing practices and advancing materials science to make its products even more durable and environmentally responsible.

With its roots in R&D, AusProof sees itself as more than just a manufacturer. A key player in the provision of mining and heavy industry support products, AusProof has managed to take its innovation-focused approach global to connect Power throughout the world..

AusProof will be exhibiting at booth B232 at the WA Mining Conference and Exhibition to be held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre from October 8–9.
