A New South Wales coal mine has been issued a prohibition notice, banning any further mining of coal onsite due to ongoing safety concerns.

The NSW Resources Regulator has been working closely with the operator of Russell Vale coal mine since an initial frictional ignition event in April 2022. Since this incident the Regulator has significantly increased its compliance and enforcement activities at the mine.

The prohibition notice will remain in place until the Regulator is satisfied appropriate safety measures have been carried out at the site.

The Regulator’s main priority is the safety of workers.
