For the sixth time in a row, Fortescue has been awarded the title of ‘Best Company for Equal Advancement Opportunity” by an organisation focused on enhancing diversity within leadership positions.
Each year, Parity.Org rates companies from different industries across a range of factors including recruitment, promotions, compensation practices, employee benefits and other policies that level the playing field for all.
Fortescue has, for the past six years, come out on top in the large companies category.
“Through our First Nations leadership programs, Diversity Employee Network Groups, and global consultation on diversity and inclusion, we’re building a workplace where every voice counts and everyone has a fair shot at success,” Fortescue said in a statement.
“It’s an honour to be recognised alongside companies driving real change.”
Sharing in that spot with several other large, medium and small-scale businesses, the key factors that set Fortescue and its fellow honourees apart include a zero tolerance policy for discrimination and harassment.
According to Parity.Org, a majority of these companies have conducted anti-bias training for all employees, committed to taking the time to source and source and interview a demographically diverse slate of candidates for every open leadership role, and have established formal pay ranges for all job roles.
Within the big entities category, Fortescue is accompanied by Alight Solutions, athenahealth, Michael Kors and The Clorox Company.
Among the five industry giants, nearly all of them leverage structured interviewing through which all job candidates are asked the same questions in the same order.
These companies also share in the provision of certain benefits to employees, like dedicated private rooms for nursing mothers, equal amounts of parental leave to both women and women, and student debt relief.
“When the playing field is truly level, it’s anyone’s game,” the Parity.Org report said.
