Liontown Resources’ donation of five spodumene-rich lithium ore samples to the Western Australian Museum’s minerals collection will contribute to the collection’s value for prospectors, industry professionals, and academics.
The pegmatite samples were from the company’s Kathleen Valley site and are now part of the museum’s Earth and Planetary Sciences department. The department manages a reference collection of over 30,000 mineral specimens from across the state.
Liontown Senior Mine Geologist, Lincoln Young, led the initiative to donate samples to the museum and visited the museum to hand them over personally.
Curator of Minerals at the Western Australian Museum, Peter Downes, thanked the company for the donation.
“They are an excellent addition to the state mineral collection and will be a valuable display and research resource into the future. It is good to be able to add specimens from current mining operations to our significant historical holdings from Western Australian pegmatites.”
The donated pegmatite specimens from Kathleen Valley were recently featured in the Perth Gem and Mineral Show. The show gathers professionals from across the mineral, gem, and geoscience sectors, providing opportunities for sharing knowledge and promoting industry developments.
By contributing to the Western Australian Museum’s collection, Liontown aims to strengthen its partnerships with the scientific and academic communities. The donation provides a valuable educational and research resource for the community, adding to the museum’s offerings and supporting learning and knowledge-sharing.
