Federal Resources Minister Madeleine King has underlined the mining industry’s importance to not only the national economy but to the safety of the nation in a keynote address at the 2025 Resources Technology Showcase Industry Forum in Perth.
“Mining and resources power the economy and are the main driver of Australia’s prosperity,” she said.
“And, increasingly, our resources sector – mines and operations right here in Western Australia – play an increasingly important role in our security and the security of our allies,” she said.
King also highlighted the fact the Federal Government is backing a suite of initiatives to strengthen the sector, including a $17 billion critical minerals production tax incentive and $3.4 billion for the Resourcing Australia’s Prosperity program.
Plans for a critical minerals strategic reserve are also underway to provide greater price certainty for investors.
“These efforts – combined with the contributions of the critical minerals facility, Export Finance Australia and the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility – all add up to a $28 billion investment in the future of Australian resources,” she said.
While opening the forum and acknowledging the Whadjuk Nyoongar people as the traditional custodians of the land, the minister discussed the role of Australia’s First Nations peoples as the first miners, mappers and navigators of the country.
“The starting point for the Resources Technology Showcase was the notion that, while all Australians enjoy the benefits of our resources sector, many do not appreciate where those benefits come from,” King said
