Mineral Resources’ (MinRes) Onslow Iron project has marked a new milestone following a successful first blast at the Cardo Bore East deposit in the west Pilbara.
Part of Onslow Iron’s Stage 1 mining activities, Cardo Bore East is located around 12km south of the Ken’s Bore mine site and will support the project’s current ramp-up to 35 million tonnes per year.
A targeted drilling program and first blast were safely completed in March by the Onslow Iron drill and blast team, with further works now underway to prepare the site for further mining and haulage activity.
Once operational, Cardo Bore East is set to deliver another high-grade iron ore producing deposit linked to linked to the Ken’s Bore crushing and processing facility by a dedicated private haul road currently under construction by MinRes wholly-owned subsidiary, CSI Mining Services.
MinRes executive general manager Onslow Iron Mike Tonkin said a successful first blast at Cardo Bore East was another positive step forward for the project.
“This is the latest important milestone in the development of the Onslow Iron project,” Tonkin said.
“Alongside our current mining activities at Ken’s Bore, Cardo Bore East will help support the project’s ramp-up.”
“Congratulations to everyone involved in achieving this milestone safely and we look forward to progressing operations at the deposit.”
MinRes marked another major milestone in late January with the final crushing plant constructed and truck load out circuit operational at Ken’s Bore.
The operation now has three modular crushing plants each with a 12.5Mt per year capacity, which are designed to consume less energy and deliver lower dust and noise emissions.
