The Northern Territory Government and the Darwin Major Business Group (DMBG) are set to hold a Facing North delegation event, which will bring together business, industry and government leaders from across the country to showcase the Territory’s industry opportunities.

The event will be held in Parliament House, Canberra on 2 August and includes a forum with lead speakers and guest contributors discussing key cultural, strategic and economic pillars of the Territory.

Highlights include:

  • Facing North for a cleaner energy future – how the Territory is building on its natural strengths in mineral resources and mining to power renewable and lower-emissions energy
  • Facing North to the forefront of Australia’s national resilience – exploring the Territory’s role in Australia’s national resilience and response efforts including defence, humanitarian and disaster response to biosecurity
  • Facing North for commercial prosperity – business and industry leaders will highlight the many current and future opportunities on the horizon and huge potential for long term creation of sustainable commercial businesses and new industry
  • Facing North to Australia’s cultural heart – hear from leaders set to show the richness of Australia’s cultural heart through projects such as the National Aboriginal Art Gallery, the Larrakia Cultural Centre and growth in Aboriginal tourism offerings

Facing North is an opportunity for the Territory to look beyond its borders and attract and secure investment and trade.

Northern Territory Chief Minister, Natasha Fyles, said that the Territory is embarking on a new and exciting economic era with huge opportunities in maritime, agribusiness, minerals and resources, and tourism.

“As well as our resources, strengths and capabilities, we also have the added strategic advantage as the best location for trade and defence in this country,” Ms Fyles said.

“And we will be telling the rest of the country this – and more – when we head to Facing North this week.”

Chair of the DMBG, Avril Baynes, said that DMBG was proud to have partnered with the Northern Territory Government to take Facing North to Canberra.

“We are a Group of 13 Northern Territory businesses that have a huge commitment to improving the economy and by default improving outcomes for all Territorians,” Ms Baynes said.

“Our investment in the Territory is substantial and we are in for the long haul. A large component of our investment as the Darwin Major Business Group is to work with others to raise awareness of the untapped economic potential of Darwin, of the Northern Territory and ultimately Northern Australia.

“As we all ‘Face North’ in Canberra our members and all delegates from the Northern Territory will ensure attention is on our future.”
