BHP and Curtin University have partnered to create scholarships which will help support regional students across Western Australia with their tertiary education.
The BHP scholarships have been designed to provide students from the company’s host communities in the Pilbara and Goldfields regions first preference when they apply for the funding.
BHP Head of Corporate Affairs Western Australia, Meath Hammons, said that the company was pleased to be working with Curtin University to make the scholarships available, focusing on the regional communities where it operates.
“Scholarships are an important part of rewarding academic excellence, supporting research, and enabling students from all backgrounds to realise their potential.”
The scholarships will help to provide the recipients with financial aid, mentorship, fourth year research project support and visits to mining operations.
Fields of study include mining, engineering and metallurgy, with dedicated opportunities available for women and Indigenous students interested in studying these fields.
