Eleven community programs and projects are being supported by the second year of Pilbara Minerals’ annual Community Grants Program, designed to support grassroots community initiatives.
The selected programs and projects are focused on enhancing education and community resilience in the Pilbara. The second round of the Pilbara Minerals program has awarded more than $90,000 in funding.
This funding will support projects such as a remote art school at Strelley, the Hedland Economic Forum, a trauma care workshop for 21 local emergency services volunteers and a program to develop leadership and entrepreneurial skills in Aboriginal women.
Pilbara Minerals is pleased to award grants to the following successful applicants:
- Strelley Community School – Strelley Songbook
- Port Hedland Chamber of Commerce – Hedland Economic Forum
- Spinifex Hill Studio – Remote Art School
- CareFlight – Trauma Care Workshop
- Port Hedland Seafarers Centre – Seafarers Christmas Hampers
- Nyamal Aboriginal Corporation – Nyamal Ranger Team
- First Nations X – Horizon Uplifting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Regional Women
- Pilbara for Purpose – ADHD Training in Port Hedland
- Port Hedland Golf Club – Strategic Plan
- North Pilbara Academy of Football – Squad Development
- Epilepsy Action Australia – Equip Epilepsy Awareness Project
Pilbara Minerals’ Chief Sustainability Officer, Sandra McInnes, said she was impressed with the quality of the applications in the second year of the program.
“It is wonderful to see such a diverse range of applications from different community groups in the Pilbara. There are some great organisations doing valuable work in the region that will make a difference, and we are proud to support them.
“We hope the support of Pilbara Minerals will contribute to the social and economic prosperity of the communities in which we operate, and we look forward to continuing to build strong relationships with the Pilbara community through this program and other existing and future community initiatives,” Ms McInnes said.
The Pilbara Minerals Community Grants Program is an annual initiative open to community organisations to apply for funding of up to $10,000. Applications were open for four weeks during July, and successful applicants were notified in August.
